Sales Tax Rates
InXtend Sales Tax Rates for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
Rates from the states' own files, tax areas set by address, and posting that never waits for an outside service.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central calculates United States sales tax from its own tax areas, jurisdictions and rate details, but somebody has to keep that data current and put the right tax area on every address. Sales Tax Rates imports rates and boundaries from the files the states publish, keeps the standard tables current with the next quarter loaded ahead of time, and assigns a tax area to each customer, ship-to and document address. The standard engine calculates and posts; nothing is called at posting.
The screens are illustrations of an app in development.

What it does
- State files, not API calls
- A scheduled job downloads each state's published rate and boundary files, including the uniform Streamlined Sales Tax files, and writes the standard tax jurisdictions, tax areas and tax details.
- Tax areas by address
- A new customer, ship-to or document address is matched to its jurisdictions from the imported boundaries, and the Tax Area Code is filled in with a status of Resolved, Pending or Manual.
- Rates ahead of the quarter
- Next-quarter rates arrive as effective-dated tax details, so the standard engine switches on the right date with nothing to do and nothing to call.
- Nothing to call at posting
- Calculation and posting stay inside Business Central; the only outside traffic is the file download and an optional address lookup when an address is entered, never at posting.
